Grand Prairie Officer Killed While Running Radar By Rocky Walton on June 25, 2019

GRAND PRAIRIE – Grand Prairie police officer Albert Castaneda, 38, was killed June 7 after being struck by a 17-year-old driver who lost control of his Nissan, the Star-Telegram. Castaneda died at an Arlington hospital after the mishap, Grand Prairie police said.

Police said Castaneda was outside his patrol vehicle working radar on the George Bush Freeway when the Nissan driver swerved and hit him, throwing the officer from the elevated highway to the ground below.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are investigating the accident. Police said Castaneda normally would have had Friday off, but had volunteered for extra duty.
